Junior Cycle parents welcome
Thank you for visiting our website.
Welcome to our website. It gives me great pleasure to welcome all our visitors to Lough Allen College. We are a mixed vocational school located in Drumkeeran, Leitrim, Ireland. Our school overlooks the beautiful Lough Allen and is set among the wonderful background which forms the landscape of Drumkeeran. We offer our students a holistic education based on mutual respect and strive to help all our students reach their full potential. We look forward to hearing from all our visitors and any suggestions you may have to improve our site. We send special greetings to all our past students who are spread to the four corners of the world.
David Harding (Principal)
Drumkeeran is located approximately 19 miles from Carrick-on-Shannon, 12 miles from Manorhamilton and 20 miles from Sligo. Drumkeeran Vocational School opened its doors in 1935. The present school, re-named Lough Allen College was built in 1987. It is located on the Dowra Road beside the Catholic Church on an elevated 6.5 acre site. The College is a co-educational secondary school under the Patronage and management of County Leitrim VEC. The catchment area extends to around 100 square miles but 1st Year enrolment rarely exceeds 40 students. This allows for the student and teacher to develop a friendship as well as an educational relationship. This familarity has been the backbone for the holistic development of all our students. The school offers a comprehensive educational programme for the Junior and Leaving Certificate, as well as a very successful Outdoor Pursuits FETAC Level 5 Course in conjunction with the Lough Allen Outdoor Pursuits Centre. A Transition Year Programme has also been provided, subject to demand, and the school has a significant Special Needs Education Programme. Examination results in both Junior and Leaving certificate have been excellent and Lough Allen College participates in the Sligo/Leitrim Arts Education Programme as well as Cross-border LET and KEY Programmes. Enrolment reached a peak of 234 students around five years ago.
Lough Allen College has ten classrooms in the main building which was constructed in 1987. Two additional classrooms have been added. Specialist rooms include an Art/Music Room, Technology/Drawing Room, Metalwork/Engineering Room, Woodwork Room, Science Laboratory, Home Economics Room and Computer Room. There are five general classrooms.
